Information for Emergencies
It is possible that in the course of your work as a Teaching Assistant or Invigilator that you will encounter a student in distress or in an emergency situation. Despite AGSEM’s repeated requests, McGill does not provide adequate training to AGSEM members, especially given the frequency of these events on campus. We recommend that you become aware of the emergency resources on campus in the unfortunate event that such measures become necessary.
- If you or someone you know is in immediate danger (about to hurt yourself/themselves or someone else), please call 911. If you are at the Downtown Campus, you can call Campus Security at 514-398-3000. If you are at the Macdonald Campus, you can call 514-398-7777.
- If a student needs to speak with someone immediately, several hotlines are available for urgent care outside of university hours.
- If it’s not a crisis but help is still needed, students may make an appointment with a doctor, nurse, dietitian or mental health professional by calling 514-398-6017 Monday through Friday (10am – 3pm) or in person on the third floor of Brown Building (8:30am – 4:30pm). Appointments with Local Wellness Advisors may be booked online.
- Canadian students can access Telehealth through StudentCare as part of their supplemental insurance. International students can access Telehealth through Maple as part of their international student.
